Czech Roma influx to Canada needs rational analysis

Czech media and politicians seem to panic in effort to find who to blame for the visa duty that Canada has imposed on Czechs and more rational attempts at addressing the problem may appear only when this panic recedes.

Some commentators believe that bad work of Czech diplomats is behind the unfortunate fact that Canada reintroduced visas for Czech citizens last week over the growing number of Czech asylum applicants.

Others point to people working in “the human rights business” in Canada who allegedly make profit from the influx of Czech Romanies to the country. Still others say Romanies who form most of the asylum claimants simply seek a more comfortable life overseas.

While some criticise Canada over allegedly ill-considered immigration rules and promotion of multiculturalism, others put blame on the European Union for not willing to impose visas on Canadians in retaliation or on Czechs who according to them worsen the image of their homeland abroad, claiming that it is hostile to Romanies.
